Frequently Asked Questions

Getting the right appointment can be difficult, so we have put together these questions to aid you in getting the right test or booking for your needs

I have discharge, can I have a rapid test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea or Trichomonas?

No. You should book an appointment for laboratory testing. Penile or abnormal vaginal discharge can interfere with the effectiveness of the lateral flow tests.

Rapid testing is highly accurate when used for asymptomatic screening.

I had sex with someone 30 days ago. I feel well and have no symptoms but I would like to make sure I have not got an STD. Can I get a Rapid Test?

Yes

I have not had an STD test for 6 months. In that time I have had 10 sexual partners. I just want an MOT. I have no symptoms. Can I get Rapid Testing?

Yes

I both give and receive oral & anal sex with other men, I’m concerned I may have contracted gonorrhoea. Would Rapid Tests be suitable for me?

No. The swabs for Rapid Screening are done from the urethra only. For a full MOT we have laboratory panels also involving oropharynx (throat) and anal swabs which are processed so detect STDs as it is possible to have gonorrhea, for example, in one area of the body but not another.
